Het is een kunstvorm die iedereen kan. In tegenstelling tot eindeloze teksten van buiten leren, instuderen van partituren en regels van regisseurs opvolgen, heb je bij improviseren geen verplichtingen te volgen. Je hebt volkomen vrijheid.
Het improvisatie theater of impro theater is een vrije vorm van theater waarbij de spelers het verhaal, de personages en de scenes niet op voorhand kennen. Het verhaal moet dus nog ter plekke geschreven worden. Dit geeft een ongelofelijk vrij gevoel op het podium.
Het conventionele theater gebruikt ook improvisatie oefeningen om de vrijheid te creëren, maar het geheel blijft georganiseerd.

According to the Cambridge university "Improvisation" is a performance that an actor, musician, etc. has not practiced or planned.

It is an art form that anybody can do. Opposite to learning endless lines and studying scores or following lines and rules from directors, in improv you are not bound by any of these rules. You are completely free.
The improvisation theater or Improv theater is a free form of theater were actors don't know the story, the characters or any of the scenes in advance. The story has to unfold itself at the spot. This generates an incredible liberated feeling on stage.
Conventional Theater uses improv techniques for creating freedom but this always orchestrated.
